Full job description

Job Description

The Head of Production leads the production function for GM’s Global Visualization Studio (GVS). This role designs and runs the operating model for how work moves through the studio across brands and pillars – from intake to delivery.

Sitting alongside the Head of Creative, the Head of Production is accountable for how projects are planned, staffed, scheduled, reviewed, and delivered, and for ensuring that GVS operates as one integrated studio in partnership with Design, Marketing, and Asset Foundations. This position manages the producer layer, sets production standards and rhythms, and is responsible for speed, cost, and production quality across all GVS outputs.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and lead the end-to-end production model for GVS across all brands and pillars (Creative Operations, Production/Design/Systems/Data, Architecture & Experience).

  • Establish and maintain a shared intake and prioritization process with Design and Marketing so there is a single front door and a clear view of what matters most.

  • Design and enforce simple, repeatable workflows for planning, reviews, approvals, and delivery.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of producers and production leads aligned by brand and workstream.

  • Partner closely with the Head of Creative, pillar leads, and Brand Liaisons to ensure creative and production leadership are tightly coordinated.

  • Drive a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within the production function.

  • Oversee production planning, schedules, and resource allocation across live action, CGI/retouching, visualization design, systems, data, and architecture teams.

  • Work with producers and pillar leads to ensure the right skills are on the right projects at the right time, including coordination with satellite studios (Pasadena, UK, China, Korea).

  • Balance internal capacity with external partners (agencies, vendors) where appropriate, based on cost, quality, and timing.

  • Own the production use of shared tools (e.g., Monday.com, Frame.io, Google Workspace) so status, ownership, and next steps are visible and predictable.

  • Help define and operationalize self-serve tools and pipelines that enable repeatable work (evergreen, pack shots, adaptations) at scale.

  • Set and uphold production standards for quality, timeliness, and efficiency across all GVS outputs.

  • Track and report on key production metrics (throughput, rework, cost avoidance, on-time delivery) and use those insights to refine the model.

  • Work with Design and Marketing partners to identify opportunities to insource or shift work into GVS where it improves quality, consistency, or cost-effectiveness.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Film/TV Production, Design, Communications, Business) or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in production leadership roles within creative, visualization, or content-driven organizations (e.g., agency, studio, in-house brand side).

  • Demonstrated experience managing producers and/or managers across multiple concurrent projects and disciplines.

  • Proven track record designing and running production processes at scale (from intake to delivery).

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in automotive, visualization, or design-driven environments is strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience bridging in-house studios and external agencies/vendors.

  • Working knowledge of live action, CGI/retouching, VFX/3D, and/or real-time visualization workflows.

  • Familiarity with project/production tools such as Monday.com, Frame.io, and modern asset pipelines (MMM/UDM, Unreal/WebGL, or similar).

  • Demonstrated success leading change and building new teams or capabilities within a complex organization.
