The Maintenance Trainee program is designed for individuals to rotate through various maintenance roles, learning proper training and techniques for success in all maintenance aspects of underground coal mining. Trainees will gain skills in general maintenance, equipment servicing, welding, troubleshooting diesel equipment, and understanding mine power layouts.

Key focus areas include Learn general maintenance & repairs, Learn full service on equipment, and Run wire feed welder.

Successful candidates bring Associates Degree Diesel Mechanics, Trade Certificate Diesel/Welding/Hydraulics, and Military Motorpool Experience. Preferred (not required): General Maintenance & Repairs, Full Service On Equipment, Run Wire Feed Welder, and Read A Parts Manual.

Full job description

JOB CATEGORY DEFINITION:

The Maintenance Trainee program is designed for the individual to serve in rotations between maintenance roles in learning the proper training and techniques designed to be successful in all maintenance aspects of underground coal mining.

JOB TITLE DEFINITION:

The trainee will learn:

  • General Maintenance & Repairs

  • Full service on equipment

  • Run wire feed welder

  • Read a parts manual

  • Proper troubleshooting techniques on diesel equipment

  • Fire suppression on diesel equipment

  • Diesel emission testing

  • Understand mine power layout

  • Review all lock-out / tag-out procedures for working on various equipment

  • Assist in setting up a VFD/belt drive for a new installation

  • Breaker test and correct breaker settings

  • Understand basic 3 phase power

  • Understand slip, sequence, and remotes for belts

  • Perform chain and crawler maintenance

  • Proper cribbing and blocking techniques

  • Learn how to operate all face equipment

  • Troubleshoot & install leaky feeder & fiber optic cables

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree in Diesel Mechanics or a Trade Certificate in diesel, welding, or hydraulics

  • Comparable Military type experience in motorpool

  • New Miner Training for Underground & Surface

Benefits

Compensation at an attractive hourly rate of $27.33. Rate changes to $36.23 once Federal and State Electrical Certification is received.

In addition, there's potential to earn various bonuses based on safety, production metrics, and attendance.
