Description

Utility workers perform tasks associated with many facets of the construction job site. Responsible for producing high quality work, safely and productively at all times. Looks for opportunities for improvement in all tasks, means and methods regarding the work, and is willing to learn from others. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work-related tools and equipment. Will be required to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.

  • Assisting all crafts with a variety of basic tasks

  • Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers

  • Proper identification, use and care of hand power tools

  • Duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools

  • Cuts, measures, drills holes in walls, use of pneumatic drill

  • Assists pipefitter to install valves, coupling and other fittings

  • May disassemble and remove damaged or work pipe

  • Follow specific directions; perform a variety of duties which may often change

  • Work with standards of accuracy; repeat tasks of short duration

  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have 6 months of experience as a utility in a construction setting

  • Must be able to assess through Burns and McDonnell assessment program

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, or reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull

  • Ability to use repetitive hand motions and the ability to grasp and operate field tools and equipment

  • Ability to climb on, in or through equipment in confined spaces and elevated work using fall protection harnesses

  • Ability to work long hours with infrequent days off, night shifts, and in adverse climates

  • Ability to use respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus

  • Ability to utilize vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to lift, carry and or move up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and vibrations for extended periods of time

  • Ability to properly wear and/or use Personal Protection Equipment

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to seek advice, make decisions, exercise sound judgement, and solve problems

  • Ability to work under stressful situations

  • Ability to learn and adopt new processes and technology
