Field Engineer
Data Center Construction Project
Position Summary
The Field Engineer supports day-to-day construction operations on a large-scale data center project by serving as a key link between the field and project management teams. This role is responsible for coordinating field activities, tracking project progress, managing documentation, supporting quality and safety initiatives, and assisting with the successful execution of construction work.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and eager to develop hands-on construction management experience while working alongside project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and client representatives in a fast-paced mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Field Coordination & Construction Support
Support daily construction activities and assist with coordination between field crews, subcontractors, and project management.
Conduct routine jobsite walks to monitor work progress and identify potential issues.
Verify construction activities are being performed according to project plans and specifications.
Assist field leadership with resolving site-related challenges and coordinating work activities.
Track manpower, productivity, and construction milestones.
Project Documentation
Maintain accurate project records, daily reports, and field logs.
Assist with managing RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, and project correspondence.
Document field observations, progress updates, and project issues.
Maintain organized project files and ensure documentation is current.
Support project closeout documentation and turnover packages.
Scheduling & Progress Tracking
Monitor short-term and long-term project schedules.
Track installation activities and support schedule updates.
Coordinate with project teams to identify schedule constraints and recovery opportunities.
Assist with planning upcoming work activities and material deliveries.
Report progress and potential delays to project leadership.
Quality Control Support
Participate in project quality inspections and verification activities.
Monitor workmanship and installation quality in the field.
Identify deficiencies and assist with tracking corrective actions.
Support implementation of project quality management procedures.
Assist with punch list development and closeout activities.
Safety Support
Promote and support a strong safety culture on site.
Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
Assist with jobsite safety observations and compliance monitoring.
Support documentation of safety-related activities and corrective actions.
Ensure work activities adhere to project safety policies and OSHA requirements.
Procurement & Material Coordination
Track material deliveries and equipment installations.
Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors regarding material status.
Assist with inventory tracking and material management.
Help ensure long-lead equipment arrives according to project schedules.
Support logistics planning and site delivery coordination.
Client & Team Communication
Attend project meetings and provide field updates.
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and design teams.
Communicate field issues, construction progress, and project needs.
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and project updates.
Build strong working relationships with all project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
0-3 years of construction, engineering, project coordination, or internship experience.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
Willingness to spend significant time in active construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Internship or experience supporting commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center construction projects.
Familiarity with Procore, Autodesk Build, BIM 360, Bluebeam, or similar construction management platforms.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Understanding of construction means and methods.
Exposure to quality control, scheduling, or project management processes.
