Full job description

About Tensec Founded in 2023, Tensec is a global fintech that enables small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to enter global trade and thrive by giving them access to global transaction banking solutions that are user-friendly, efficient, and secure.

Tensec founders have driven startups from foundation to exit, built decacorns, and led global teams at companies such as PayPal, Credit Karma, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. We’re putting together a world-class team to disrupt the $50 trillion cross-border b2b financial services industry by providing SMBs the financial strength to participate and win in the global economy.

We believe that successful companies and teams are directly correlated to a company's cultural DNA. At Tensec, we make a deliberate effort to create values and foster a culture able to unleash both human and organizational potential. We strongly believe that the best business results derive from teams that have a strong identification with a mission, push themselves to the edge, and love what they do.

The Tensec team is diverse and global, with members in San Francisco, New York, Miami, Monterrey, and Sao Paulo. We are funded by top venture capital firms such as Quiet Capital, Costanoa Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Clocktower, WillowTree, and prolific angels such as Jason Pate (Chief Strategy Officer, Plaid), Bora Chung (ex-Chief Experience Officer, Bill.com and Board Member, Remitly).

This role follows a hybrid model. We ask that you're in our office 2–3 days per week.

How we work We move fast, debrief quickly, and expect you to own your output. This is a dynamic company, we value speed and decisiveness over process. You'll have the context you need to make good decisions, and the autonomy to make them.

About the role Tensec is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to design and ship the products our customers actually touch. Dealing with transactions and compliance across borders adds a level of complexity most industries never face — and we believe smarter infrastructure and thoughtful design can change that. Here are some of the challenges you could help us tackle:

  • Reimagine cross-border compliance & operations : automate painful manual processes and make teams far more productive

  • Build AI applications for cross-border financial services : develop intelligent systems that enhance transaction processing, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions

  • Enable trading & finance for SMBs : give smaller businesses access to financial tools once reserved for large institutions, utilizing stablecoins to facilitate global market access and liquidity

  • Simplify complex global workflows : design user experiences that bring transparency to payments spanning multiple countries and currencies

  • Build resilient technical foundations : support diverse payment rails worldwide, reconcile across currencies and financial institutions, and ensure security at a global scale

  • Level up the team : introduce new technologies and practices that improve how we build and operate together

As a software engineer, you would expect to:

  • Own features end to end — from discovery and design through development, launch, and iteration.

  • Build across the stack: responsive, intuitive frontends and the secure, reliable backends and infrastructure behind them.

  • Partner closely with product, design, and cross-functional teams to translate vision into shipped product.

  • Prototype quickly to validate ideas, then harden the winners into scalable, maintainable solutions.

  • Write clean, reliable, well-tested, well-documented code, and define best practices for development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Proactively monitor, identify, and resolve production issues to keep the experience fast, secure, and reliable.

  • Stay on top of where the industry is heading — and bring new tools, patterns, and ideas back to make our systems better.

  • Work effectively with people across time zones and regions.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with hands-on full-stack delivery — modern frontend frameworks plus API development and database design.

  • A track record of shipping products to real end users and iterating based on their feedback.

  • Proven experience with popular frameworks; React and Node.js (or comparable) a plus.

  • Hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms, CI/CD, and monitoring tools.

  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) — and enthusiasm for using them to ship faster and better.

  • A stack-agnostic mindset and the versatility to quickly learn and adapt.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, strong product instincts, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Deep empathy for customers and a fervent passion for elevating user experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a diverse team and stakeholders.

  • Experience in — or strong desire to work in — early-stage startup environments.

  • Prior fintech industry experience.

Compensation, Benefits and Perks

  • We're considering candidates at several experience levels for this role. Base compensation ranges from $132,000 to $230,000 per year and will be tailored to your background and qualifications.

  • Equity

  • Medical, dental and vision

  • 15 days paid time off

  • Learning and development budget

This role follows a hybrid model. We ask that you're in our office 2–3 days per week.
