Craftperson A - Heavy Equipment Operator

Description:

• Operates cranes and performs associated rigging in support of refinery maintenance work. Required to certify in fixed and swing cab cranes.

• Operates forklift, manlift, backhoe, skid steer, manlift, scissor lift etc. in support of maintenance and operations activities.

• Performs inspection of cranes, rigging equipment, etc. and ensures proper documentation is maintained.

• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on company vehicles and equipment.

• Performs and or signs on Building Maintenance and Transportation related tasks as needed.

• Maintains accurate written records and utilizes SAP, Microsoft Office, Reviews SAP history for timely and accurate entry in SAP.

• Performs work in a safe manner and in compliance with all policies and procedures. Interfaces/communicates in a positive teamwork fashion with craft persons, operators, contractors, supervision and support staff.

• Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret crane lift plans, basic schematics, blueprints, and drawings.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Is willing to work overtime when needed and be on-call during assigned periods.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

The hourly rate for this position is $55.78 and represents Valero’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Minimum five years of crane experience required.

• Current Maintenance Technician classification preferred.

• Required to train and certify as a Maintenance Technician within 18 months in Transportation Tech Requirements as outlined in the Craft Promotion and Training Policy Transportation Skills (ie: all cranes above 15 tons).

• Current applicable swing cab crane license required (includes rigging for crane lifts, and inspection of cranes and rigging equipment).

• Forklift experience is required.

• A working knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs/preventive maintenance (hydraulic and cooling systems, oil changes, brakes, electrical troubleshooting, tire repairs, etc.) preferred.

• Backhoe/skip loader operation, preferred.

• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Wilmington Refinery, required.

About the Wilmington Refinery The Valero Wilmington Refinery was commissioned in 1969 and has had three major expansions to become a fully integrated refinery and several upgrades to meet clean-fuel standards. The Wilmington refinery processes a blend of California and foreign crude oil, as well as unfinished feedstocks from local and foreign sources. Given its coking and desulfurizing capabilities, it is particularly well-suited to process lower-cost heavy, high-sulfur crude oils and feedstocks. The refinery also produces 15 percent of the asphalt supply in southern California. Refined products are distributed from the Wilmington refinery through a network of third-party pipelines and terminals in southern California, Nevada and Arizona, and then on to wholesale and retail customers.
