Full job description

Works under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager and is immediately supervised by the Environmental Service Supervisor.

Education, Work Experience and Licensure:

  • High school graduate or GED: 1-2 years of experience in the following areas Housekeeping, Courier Driver, Patient Transport, Laundry or Mailroom accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma/GED.

  • Current Valid driver’s license.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager and is immediately supervised by the Environmental Service Supervisor. Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Receives daily cleaning assignments, selects materials and supplies from storeroom area, loads housekeeping cart and transports to work area. At end of shift, returns unused supplies, along with cart, to janitor's closet. Collects and transports waste and soiled linen to designated areas for disposal or pick up by outside vendors. Cleans waste and linen carts, also cleans equipment.

  • Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, floors and equipment with special cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent the spread of disease.

  • Use dust cloths and vacuum cleaners to dust window sills, floors, furniture and closets. Dust mop and wet mop floors in rooms and offices. Empties waste baskets and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.

  • Strips and refinishes floors, scrubs showers and polishes floors using buffing

machines. Shampoos carpets when necessary. Washes walls, ceilings and

inside windows. May periodically be called upon to was some outside windows.

  • Collects infectious waste, makes proper shipping and storage boxes for disposal of infectious wastes, labels and prepares infectious waste for shipment according to procedure.

  • Makes beds with clean linen in prescribed manner. Performs terminal cleaning as needed. Scours and polishes sinks, mirrors, showers, commodes and similar equipment. Assists in cleaning of emergency spills observed, or upon request.

  • Replenishes supplies of soap, towels and other disposable items.

  • Maintains equipment for cleanliness and has repairs made when needed. Reports mechanical failures or negative conditions as observed in assigned area for preparation of work order for maintenance.

  • In case of a fire or other internal disasters, assist in escorting ambulatory patients to exits. In case of community disaster, assists nursing in making up extra beds and other duties as assigned.

  • No direct patient care given.

  • Moves furniture for other departments. Sets up meeting rooms in designated styles.

  • Maintains storeroom areas in clean and orderly fashion. Requests supplies

when needed. Prepares cleaning and disinfectant solutions as prescribed by

manufacturer.

  • Required to be on the Hospital and/or free standing ED, HAZMAT response team.
