School Occupational Therapist (OT)

Primary Purpose

Provide occupational therapy services to students with disabilities to improve their ability to participate in school activities (learning, writing, self-care, and classroom tasks) and meet their IEP goals .

Key Job Duties

1. Evaluation & Assessment

1. Assess and document students’ educational and therapy needs

2. Conduct screenings and identify students who need occupational therapy services

3. Evaluate areas such as:

4. Fine motor skills

5. Sensory processing

6. Coordination and daily living skills

2. Therapy & Intervention

1. Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy programs

2. Use innovative techniques and strategies to support student progress

3. Provide therapy to improve:

4. Handwriting

5. Classroom participation

6. Independence in school tasks

3. IEP Responsibilities

1. Participate in IEP meetings

2. Help develop therapy goals and services for students

3. Deliver OT services according to IEP plans

4. Instructional Materials & Adaptations

1. Develop or obtain specialized materials and supports for students

2. Modify classroom tasks and environments to improve accessibility

5. Collaboration & Consultation

1. Work closely with:

2. Teachers

3. Special education staff

4. Other therapists (PT, SLP, etc.)

5. Provide guidance on:

6. Motor skills

7. Sensory needs

8. Adaptive equipment

6. Training & Staff Support

1. Provide training and in-service sessions to school staff on:

2. Therapy strategies

3. Student needs

4. Help staff implement supports in the classroom

7. Documentation & Compliance

1. Maintain records of:

2. Evaluations

3. Therapy sessions

4. Student progress

5. Ensure compliance with IDEA, Georgia laws, and district policies

8. Professional Responsibilities

1. Participate in professional development

2. Maintain high professional and ethical standards

3. Perform other duties as assigned by administration

Minimum Qualifications

1. Valid Georgia Occupational Therapist License/Certification

2. Strong skills in:

3. Assessment

4. Communication

5. Collaboration

6. Ability to work across multiple school sites (itinerant role)
