Full job description

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the certification process of all WIC applicants and working with all WIC staff to ensure client services are met in a timely, efficient manner. Interview participants to obtain basic demographic data; verify identity, residency, and income eligibility by reviewing the presented paperwork; and enter all data into the CT-WIC MIS software system. Provide individual and group nutrition education counseling to low-risk children. Provide WIC Program participant services and conduct clerical duties, including scheduling appointments, updating demographic data, and answering phones.

Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency with at least 2 years of experience working in a medical office or performing clerical duties OR Associates Degree from an accredited institution with a major in diet tech or health related program plus 1 year of work experience or currently enrolled in nutritional/health sciences plus equivalent work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution with a major in foods and nutrition, community nutrition, nutrition education, nutritional sciences, health education or medical sciences

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with WIC participants, agency staff, and external partners.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • The ability to establish rapport with individuals and small groups.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.

  • Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft office suite.

  • Bilingual applicants strongly encouraged.
