Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

The medical physician is responsible for provision of medical care and the emergency treatment of patients on assigned unit.

  • Perform physical examinations on all patients upon admit to facility and annually.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat and follow-up medical problems on patients.

  • Refer to medical specialists as appropriate for care.

  • Order laboratory tests, radiological studies, dental work, special diets and medications as indicated by patient’s condition.

  • Closely collaborate and discuss patient’s condition with psychiatrists and other members of the treatment team to help in the management of the most appropriate patient care.

  • May testify in court as a medical witness.

  • Advise Administration of special health care needs of patient population and further advise as the requirements for contracting specialty consultations.

  • Regularly attend Medical Staff and other committee meetings as scheduled.

  • If Board Certified, maintain current certification.

  • Comply with CME requirements for state licensure and/or Board Certification.

  • Adhere to LDH, OBH, Civil Service and CLSH rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and to the legal and ethical standards of the profession.

  • Perform other duties as determined by the Medical Director.

Salary is based on qualifications.
