Position Summary/Description:
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, fixed-term faculty position at the master’s level to serve as a Clinical Instructor with the UNC Wake Assertive Community Treatment ( ACT ) Team located in Raleigh and providing services in Wake County.
ACT is an intensive, multi-disciplinary, community-based mental health service for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, with a particular focus on individuals with primary psychotic disorders. ACT targets individuals who have significant functional impairments, as well as complicating treatment factors that present barriers to participation in more traditional office-based services. ACT works according to a recovery-based philosophy and provides person-centered services addressing the breadth of an individual’s needs, helping him or her achieve their personal goals. ACT is generally the first responder and single point of responsibility for meeting the client’s needs, which necessitates higher frequency and intensity of services and a low staff-to-client ratio.
The ACT Team provides crisis response services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through an on-call crisis line. This position participates in the rotation of the ACT on-call phone and is expected to respond appropriately to calls within the required timeframe.
Master’s level ACT clinicians are responsible for the coordination of ACT services for an assigned group of individuals served by the ACT Team, including the assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of evidence-based interventions, rehabilitation, and support services. Area(s) of focus will be based on clinician expertise and skill as well as the needs of the caseload, and could include evidence-based therapy appropriate for the population, integrated dual disorders treatment for co-occurring disorders, housing, employment, and psychiatric rehabilitation, among others. This position may support trainees or learners during rotations or placement with the ACT Team.
