Trademark Associate (Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; New York, NY; Salt Lake City, UT) (#1047)

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking an Associate attorney with two to four years of experience in the intellectual property field to join the Trademark, Copyright + Advertising department in the Minneapolis, New York, Denver, or Salt Lake City office.

This Associate will work primarily on trademark and copyright matters, including: trademark strategy, clearance, prosecution, and enforcement matters, domestic and international; copyright strategy, analysis and filings and handling digital content issues such as fair use, URDP complaints and online enforcement and take down requests; drafting intellectual property related agreements such as licenses and rights transfer agreements; and assistance with due diligence in purchase, sale, and financing transactions that relate to intellectual property assets. The work may also include handling of opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (with litigation support as needed), and work on advertising, marketing and unfair competition matters.

The following qualifications are required:

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Two to four years of intellectual property experience in the trademark and copyright field, including trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement; copyright prosecution and enforcement; domain name disputes and UDRP proceedings; intellectual property assignments or licensing; intellectual property-related due diligence in corporate transactions; and DMCA compliance matters

  • Exemplary organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple matters

  • Track record of successfully managing client projects and deadlines with independence

  • Experience with client interactions and direct communications

  • Excellent analytical and writing skills

  • Strong academic performance

  • Bar admission in Minnesota, New York, Colorado, or Utah

Candidates who have experience on intellectual property agreements (in addition to licensing) and/or experience in advertising, contest, sweepstakes, and media/entertainment matters are preferred.

For Denver and Minneapolis applicants only: The salary range for this position is $205,000 - $255,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. The individual hired for this position may have the option of electing a lower billable-hours track with a proportional reduction in salary. Associates are eligible to participate in Dorsey’s associate bonus program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.

For New York applicants only, the salary range for this position is $245,000 - $300,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. The individual hired for this position may have the option of electing a lower billable-hours track with a proportional reduction in salary. Associates are eligible to participate in Dorsey’s associate bonus program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
