Position Summary:

Provides quality patient care through performing a wide variety of patient care activities and supportive services under the clinical supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Unit Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine vital signs monitoring and charting.

  • Demonstrates proper EKG and venipuncture procedures.

  • Demonstrates ability to properly attend Family Practice Physicians.

  • May collect comprehensive, accurate, and systematic data specific to the patient during the admission process and through ongoing reassessment and re-evaluation.

  • Can formulate nursing diagnosis (using NANDA taxonomy) and uses standard DSM IV classifications of mental disorders to express conclusions supported by the collection of data.

  • Develops treatment plans with specific goals that are patient-centered, time-oriented, and measurable and with basic, psychotherapeutic and health-teaching interventions that are unique to each patient’s needs and rights.

  • Uses therapeutic communication skills in supportive and crisis counseling with patients and families.

  • Performs basic dressing changes and is knowledgeable of the fundamentals of sterile technique and documents activities.

  • Responds appropriately to changes and complications in patient conditions and recognizes and reports adverse reactions to the Registered Nurse.

  • Obtains the signature of the Registered Nurse for review and co-signature for all entries.

  • Understands and is familiar with all Hospital policies and procedures, especially policies and procedures covering infection control, emergency plan implementation, patient rights, hazardous materials management, and patient and proprietary information confidentiality.

  • Completes assigned tasks with minimal supervision but seeks guidance when uncertain how to perform a procedure.

Training and Development Responsibilities:

  • Maintains all necessary certifications – CPR, TCI, etc…

  • Attends on regular basis staff training and development sessions in order to enhance job knowledge.

Personal Responsibilities:

  • Is punctual and prepared to perform duties and responsibilities.

  • Presents a professional image, both in appearance and delivery of service.

  • Communicates to supervisory staff all work-related issues, concerns, and problems.

  • Works well with co-workers and ensures that necessary communication and cooperation takes place.

  • Able to demonstrate consistently the ability to hold accountable self and co-workers.

  • Adheres to the ethics and values of the organization as outlined in the Peninsula’s “Standards of Performance”.

  • Understands the mission of the organization and is able to communicate such to others.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and shows the ability to problem-solve through the chain of command as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Student in an accredited nursing education program. Student must have junior or senior year status and must have successfully completedfundamentalclinical skills portion of the program or must complete the program within the same semester of hiring into the position. (1stsemester of clinicals)

Minimum Experience:

No experience is required but previous hospital experience is preferred. The student must be able to perform as a nursing assistant.

Licensure Requirement:

CPR required.
