Full job description

Summary Performs the fundamental engineering tasks associated with the design and development of mechanical systems to product requirements and specifications. Typical products include structural components, suspension systems, and mechanical drive systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Apply the principles of engineering to develop geared and suspension systems utilizing parametric modeling and using applicable standards and specifications.

  • Verify and document design safety margins by performing stress, vibration, contact, and deflection using finite element analysis (FEA).

  • Apply GD&T to accurately communicate functional feature relationships and requirements.

  • Verify component and assembly fit conditions using statistical stack up analyses of drawing dimensional requirements.

  • Interaction with manufacturing engineering and quality to assure manufacturability of designed hardware.

  • Develop and release 2D drawings and 3D models utilizing parametric CAD software.

  • Direct the specification of purchase componentry includes bearings, seals, fasteners, etc.

  • Support prototype and production manufacturing and assembly with the applicable assigned Program Manager.

  • Develop / execute test plan for validating design to customer requirements.

  • Support test plan reporting, including if required Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) documentation.

  • Constructs engineering artifacts in support of design reviews, including APQP design process documents: DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.

  • Prepare engineering reports in support of checkpoint design reviews.

  • Lead assigned design efforts in accordance with our Product Development Process (PDP)

  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of PDP.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in engineering from a four-year college or university and 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD software is highly desired.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
