AI Engineer - Hybrid, Hartford CT

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to support and modernize a long-standing broker and commission calculation platform while driving the adoption of AI-powered solutions across the application ecosystem. The ideal candidate is a senior-level engineer who can adapt quickly to shifting priorities, work across legacy and modern technologies, and contribute to large-scale data processing, machine learning, and generative AI initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using Java (7/8, migrating to Java 21) and Spring Boot.

• Design, build, and enhance API-driven applications with a focus on scalable microservices architecture.

• Develop and integrate AI-powered capabilities, including Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and intelligent automation solutions.

• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to identify AI use cases and implement production-ready solutions.

• Build and optimize data pipelines supporting AI/ML workloads and large-scale batch processing.

• Design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures and AI orchestration workflows where appropriate.

• Leverage cloud-native AI services and frameworks within GCP, Azure, or AWS environments.

Must be able to work onsite 3 days per week in Hartford, CT.

Skills and Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Java Developer in enterprise environments.

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience with Python and PySpark for data engineering and AI/ML workloads.

• Strong API development experience (REST required).

• Experience designing, developing, or integrating AI/ML solutions in production environments.

• Knowledge of Generative AI technologies, including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG architecture, vector databases, and AI agent frameworks.

• Experience consuming AI services through APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Vertex AI, Anthropic, or similar platforms).

• Familiarity with MLOps concepts, model deployment, monitoring, and governance best practices.

• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar technologies.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a fast-paced Agile environment. • Experience working with relational databases (DB2 preferred).

• Experience building enterprise AI applications using LangChain, Semantic Kernel, LlamaIndex, or similar frameworks.

• Experience implementing AI governance, security, and responsible AI practices.

• Familiarity with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, or Vertex AI Vector Search.

• Experience modernizing legacy systems and integrating AI-driven business processes.

• Knowledge of financial services, commissions, brokerage, or enterprise compensation platforms.
