Full job description

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication management for individuals with mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders and history of trauma. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in coordination with psychologists, social workers, nursing staff, and Security personnel. Provide ongoing psychopharmacologic treatment and crisis intervention as clinically indicated. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). Offer clinical leadership and consultation to nursing and mental health staff on psychiatric care and medication management. Ensure continuity of care during transitions, including intake, intra-facility transfers, and reentry planning. Evaluate, prepare, and participate in civil commitment proceedings for patients with severe mental illness who require Involuntary treatment or hospitalization due to risk of harm to self or others; or inability to take care for themselves. Adhere to Department of Corrections policies, professional standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Monday- Friday position

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
