Position Summary

The Occupational Health Specialist provides employment-related healthcare services to local business and industry clients. Services may be performed at the COMP Center Clinic or on-site at client locations.

This role is responsible for preparing materials, performing occupational health testing, processing results, completing client reports, and entering service information for billing. The position also travels to area client locations to provide services such as drug screening, respiratory fit testing, audiograms, and other occupational health testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform urine and hair drug screenings, breath alcohol testing, audiograms, spirometry, and respiratory fit testing.

  • Provide additional employment-related healthcare services within the scope of training and applicable regulations.

  • Travel to client locations to perform on-site occupational health testing.

  • Process drug-screening and employee-surveillance results.

  • Assist with Medical Review Officer functions.

  • Prepare accurate reports for clients regarding services provided.

  • Enter service and charge information for billing.

  • Enter Department of Transportation physical examination results into the National Registry.

  • Maintain testing equipment and ensure necessary supplies are available.

  • Assist clinical staff with services that fall within the employee’s training and scope of practice.

  • Follow all applicable OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, health department, accreditation, and organizational requirements.

  • Use universal precautions when handling infectious or hazardous materials.

  • Maintain current knowledge of occupational healthcare practices and complete required education and training.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, patients, and team members.

  • Attend required meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • One year of related healthcare experience preferred.

  • Related education or training from a college or technical school in a healthcare occupation preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EMT training and appropriate licensure or certification.

  • Paramedic training or certification.

  • Training or certification in one or more of the following:

  • Occupational hearing conservation

  • Spirometry

  • Respiratory fit testing

  • Breath alcohol testing

  • Phlebotomy

  • Urine drug-screen collection

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with a Windows-based environment.

  • Ability to enter, retrieve, organize, and interpret data.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, protocols, and governmental regulations.

  • Ability to prepare reports and communicate information clearly.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently when necessary.

Physical Requirements

This position requires medium-level physical activity, including occasionally exerting 20–50 pounds of force, frequently exerting 10–25 pounds, and regularly moving lighter objects.
