We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to support the Reliability Engineering team in Mount Vernon, WA. This individual will play a critical role in supporting the Autonomous Vehicle Platform (AVP) program by leading Functional Safety validation activities, creating comprehensive test plans, and coordinating efforts across global engineering teams. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of ISO 26262, heavy-duty vehicle systems, safety analysis methodologies, and validation testing. This role is essential to scaling Functional Safety capabilities needed to achieve key program milestones and support a limited quantity release targeted for the end of 2028.

Skills and Requirements

2+ years of vehicle development, integration, or testing experience

5+ years of experience in the heavy-duty truck industry

3+ years of Functional Safety Engineering experience

Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 and its application

Experience creating and executing Functional Safety test plans

Familiarity with CAN communication and J1939 protocols

Experience performing FMEA, Hazard Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis

Strong communication, presentation, and technical documentation skills

BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field Functional Safety Engineering Certification

Knowledge of Class 5–8 diesel and electric vehicles

MS/MEng in a technical field

ISTQB Foundation certification

Prior truck operations experience
