Prototype Software Test Engineer II

Sigma Design is a product development, engineering, and manufacturing firm. Position Details:

  • The hiring range for this role is typically between $111,000 and $121,000 annually with the full range extending to $132,000 annually, based on experience, internal equity, and career progression

  • This position will be In-Office

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Primary Function:

The Prototype Software Engineer II is responsible for developing and maintaining test software to support prototype validation, device bring-up, and manufacturing activities. This role develops automated test solutions, troubleshoots Android and Linux-based prototype devices, executes system bring-up, and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure product quality and data integrity.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Own and maintain Python-based test software, including development, deployment, and support

  • Develop and implement program-level test plans in collaboration with Engineering

  • Design and deploy automated test solutions for manufacturing, integration testing, and prototype bring-up

  • Execute end-of-line testing and prototype bring-up, including fault isolation, debugging, and repair support

  • Troubleshoot Android and Linux-based prototype devices using tools such as ADB, serial consoles, log analysis, and command-line utilities

  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to diagnose issues across software and hardware

  • Maintain and update test coverage as product requirements evolve

  • Provision, configure, and validate hardware for testing and system bring-up

  • Oversee test data collection, validate data integrity, and support root cause analysis.

  • Maintain lab systems, including PCs, engineering units, and custom hardware setups

  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent required

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience preferred

  • Strong proficiency in Python, including scripting, automation, and data processing

  • Experience working in Linux environments, including command-line tools, SSH, and basic system administration

  • Experience troubleshooting software and hardware systems in prototype or lab environments

  • Experience with Android device debugging using ADB, logcat, shell commands, or similar tools is preferred

  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices

  • Experience working across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments

  • Experience using version control systems such as Git

  • Ability to write clear, maintainable, well-documented code

  • Strong debugging and root cause analysis skills

  • Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional engineering environments

  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic lab environment

  • Experience with embedded systems, VR/AR devices, robotics, or modern C++ is a plus

  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills

  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group

  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values

  • Pass a post-offer background verification

Work Environment

Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
