Data Scientist

As a Data Scientist, you will independently develop research studies, analysis, and projects that affect the programs and policies of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) and other government agencies. Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: - Applying advanced statistical, algorithmic, or machine learning techniques to analyze large and complex datasets and produce insights that inform program decisions; AND - Designing, developing, and validating data models, automated processes, or analytical tools that detect anomalies, identify trends, or enhance program integrity; AND - Communicating technical findings to nontechnical audiences through clear visualizations, reports, and briefings that support executives, program teams, or cross agency partners. As a Data Scientist, you will: Help to anticipate future needs and to develop policy and guidance used to make or influence major policy, strategy, or regulatory decisions having significant impact upon the agency's mission. Perform analysis and provide expertise in developing and verifying hypothesis/concepts/theories/proposals in a variety of technical and analytical areas using the latest computational systems, platforms, algorithms and tools; sophisticated and advanced quantitative methods and techniques (including Artificial Intelligence); and large data sets. Play a key role in broad data research projects of major policy importance, difficulty, and complexity, directed toward significant problems relating to goals and mission of the Bureau of Fiscal Service. Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to build partnerships for sharing and improving open data. Conditions of Employment All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. Education Education Requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
