Additional Information About the Role

Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT II) – Laboratory

Join our collaborative laboratory team serving diverse patient populations across Farmington and Bonne Terre hospital labs. In this role, you will process and analyze specimens from inpatient, outpatient, clinic, long-term care, and external facilities while performing instrument maintenance, calibrations, and quality control procedures. Candidates may also assist with outpatient blood draws as part of the standard workflow at Bonne Terre.

Schedule:

  • Rotating/floater shifts

  • Days: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

  • Evenings: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

  • Nights: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM

  • Every other weekend rotation

  • Approximately 3 holidays per year

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience required

  • MLS certification required through ASCP, AMT, or AAB

  • Experience as an MT, MLS, or similar laboratory professional preferred

Overview

As part of BJC HealthCare, Parkland Health Center offers a unique combination of world-class medicine along with the deep local roots and rich history of its three predecessors – Bonne Terre Hospital (opened in 1911), Mineral Area Regional Medical Center (1952), and Farmington Community Hospital (1969). Parkland Health Center has two locations in St. Francois County, Missouri – a full-service acute care hospital in Farmington as well as a rural emergency hospital in Bonne Terre. Parkland Health Center provides quality primary and secondary level inpatient and outpatient services to the people of St. Francois County and surrounding areas in southeastern Missouri.

In addition, Parkland’s Farmington campus offers a full continuum of inpatient and medical-surgical and intensive care, obstetrics and emergency services, along with a wide variety of outpatient services including oncology services, an infusion center, a wound care clinic, and the Huckstep Heart and Lung Center. Bonne Terre is a Rural Emergency Hospital providing emergency services and outpatient services including medical observation, lab, radiology, and sleep study.

The laboratory provides outpatient diagnostic lab services as ordered by the physician, who is working to provide quality treatment for the patients condition.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) II (REG) performs specimen processing and routine / complex testing on blood and other specimens which requires a knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good laboratory practice

Responsibilities

  • Reports and maintains record of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.

  • Documents patient test management problems/concerns on quality documents and initiates corrective action.

  • Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Monitors quality control performance and corrects any problems and or reports any problems to the appropriate department.

  • Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Performs laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, test analysis.

  • Trains new personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
