About the team + role

We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world's biggest financial problems. We're looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn't a place for complacency, it's where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We're a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

The DevX team's mission is to build and operate the core developer infrastructure at Robinhood. Our team owns and scales the systems that thousands of engineers rely on daily, partnering with software developers across the company to make development fast, reliable, and cost-efficient. We are a team that takes pride in technical excellence, platform reliability, and building tools that have an outsized impact on engineering velocity across the entire organization!

As a Staff Software Engineer on the DevX team, you will serve as a technical leader for our build and developer infrastructure, driving the strategy and execution of the systems thousands of engineers depend on every day. Your work will span our build systems, CI pipelines, and remote development environments, ensuring engineers can code, test, and build with speed, safety, and reliability at scale. You will collaborate with engineering teams across Robinhood to eliminate developer friction, raise the bar for engineering productivity, and shape the long-term direction of our developer ecosystem. This is a high-visibility opportunity to set new standards of engineering efficiency and mentor the next generation of infrastructure engineers.

This role is based in our New York City, NY office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.

What you’ll do

  • Architect the long-term technical strategy and roadmap for core developer infrastructure, including CI, SCM, and development environments, ensuring systems scale reliably as engineering teams grow
  • Build and maintain robust, scalable infrastructure capable of handling increasing operational loads with a relentless focus on speed, safety, and reliability
  • Lead the strategy for developer onboarding and remote development environments, reducing time-to-first-commit and making it effortless for engineers to be productive from day one
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to standardize build and CI patterns, eliminate developer friction, and champion high engineering standards across the organization
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers across the team, conducting rigorous design reviews and establishing best-practice operational guidelines

What you bring

  • Extensive experience designing, scaling, and operating critical developer infrastructure or high-volume build and CI systems in production environments
  • Deep expertise in modern build systems such as Bazel and distributed or remote build execution, with a strong understanding of CI/CD at scale
  • Strong programming proficiency in Go or Python, with a track record of building reliable, maintainable system software
  • Proven ability to guide complex technical initiatives from conception to completion, aligning technical execution with company-wide objectives
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to advocate for build and CI tooling adoption, drive onboarding improvements, and mentor other engineers

What we offer

  • Challenging, high-impact work to grow your career.
  • Performance-driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching.
  • Best-in-class benefits to fuel your work, including 100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents.
  • Lifestyle wallet — a highly flexible benefits spending account for wellness, learning, and more.
  • Employer-paid life & disability insurance, fertility benefits, and mental health benefits.
  • Time off to recharge including company holidays, paid time off, sick time, parental leave, and more!
  • Exceptional office experience with catered meals, events, and comfortable workspaces.

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.
