LAB ASSISTANT - PART TIME - 1ST SHIFT
Position Summary:Collects and prepares blood samples for laboratory testing. Enters collections of such specimens in lab information system. Assists medical technologists and/or pathologists in performing designated laboratory tests. Assists with maintaining laboratory equipment and records following established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Uses skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples.

Follows defined process in obtaining samples including verifying patient information, labeling specimen vials, and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Disposes of contaminated needles in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.

Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.

Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into appropriate system(s).

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.
Preferred:
- Certified as a phlebotomy technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOR).
