The Clear View School and Day Treatment Center in Briarcliff Manor, NY, is a unique

nonprofit therapeutic and academic environment seeking a Custodian to support the

school’s day-to-day operations by maintaining a clean, sanitary, orderly, and safe

workplace. Custodians perform all aspects of cleaning operations related to buildings

and the campus, but not limited to customer service, cleaning, minor maintenance,

completing proper forms, and operating equipment in a safe manner. Custodians

maintain an assigned cleaning area and perform to the standards of care established by

the Chief of Operations.

Essential Functions:

1. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using predefined cleaning methods and

procedures.

1. Cleans, dusts, and wipes furniture; sweeps, mops, and/or vacuum floors; empty/clean

trash and recycling receptacles; replaces light bulbs; refills restroom dispensers.

1. Assists with the setup of facilities for meetings, classes, conferences, events, etc.

2. Strips, cleans, buffs, and applies floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors,

vacuum and shampoo carpets.

1. Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools. Buffers, auto

scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums,

brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors,

walls, carpets, furniture, etc.

1. Washes walls and equipment; uses ladders when required in work assignments.

2. Locks and unlocks assigned buildings. Secures the building when facilities are not in use

use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, and report any unauthorized occupants,

Turn off the lights.

1. Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.

2. Performs cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from

sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.

1. Move furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies on an incidental basis.

2. Washes accessible interior and exterior windows. Cleans blinds. Launder cleaning

rags and dust mops.

1. Attends to emergencies when necessary.

2. Handle recycling materials.

School Custodian

1. Maintains a clean and organized storage area for cleaning equipment and supplies

and keeps an adequate stock of cleaning supplies.

1. Cares for lawns and shrubs; cleans sidewalks and driveways, and removes ashes,

snow, and ice.

1. Safely operates job-related equipment.

2. Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, and First

Aid, CPR, and working relationships.

1. Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Requirements

Qualifications

Ability to:

1. Understand and follow oral instructions.

2. Work in adverse/ changing weather conditions inside and outside, throughout the

year

1. Display necessary initiative and dependability to work with little supervision,

either alone or in groups.

1. Work overtime as required before/ after regular shift or weekends as needed to

support safe and efficient building operations.

1. Work with computers to check/ respond to emails, as well as attend virtual

training/meetings

Education and Experience:

1. At least 18 years of age or older.

2. High School Diploma or equivalent.

3. One to six (1-6) months of custodial/ janitorial experience preferred.

4. Proven ability to fix common plumbing, electrical, and structural issues
