Position Title: Zen Den Student Staff

Number of Positions: {3} to cover open hours: M-F 7:30am-4:30pm

Number of hours per week: 8

Reporting Structure and Supervision: Director of Counseling Services

Purpose of Work Study Position

  • Assist with preservation of The Zen Den's Mission and Purpose:

  • Promote and support student wellness in a holistic, healthy, calm environment. The Zen Den is for Herkimer College students, faculty, and staff and was designed to provide a comfortable, quiet space to relax, study, read, play board games, color, practice yoga, meditation, and more. All guests are expected to support the mission of The Zen Den and be familiar with the operating policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure guests sign in and review guidelines when entering space.

  • Monitor proper use of massage chairs and wipe down as needed. Flip hourglass in windowsills.

  • Place puzzles, games, legos, coloring sheets and pencils in proper baskets and containers.

  • Make additional copies of coloring sheets and sharpen pencils as needed.

  • Water plants weekly and record date in operating manual.

  • Turn on all candles, lamps, and lighting during operating hours.

  • Change batteries as needed.

  • Arrange all small furniture in their designated clusters.

  • Place pillows and throws in proper locations on couches and massage chairs.

  • Monitor and organize community book exchange cabinet.

  • Monitor TV meditation/stress reduction apps and noise level.

  • Swiffer floor and furniture and record date in operating manual.

  • Report all concerns/issues related to cleanliness, noise, civility, and student use of the space.

Qualifications:

  • Punctual, reliable, and dependable.

  • Availability during The Zen Den's open hours required. {7:30am-4:30pm, M-F when the College is open} Must be available during opening times from 7:30-8:00am and/or closing time 4-4:30pm.

Application Instructions: Applicants required to interview with Director of Counseling Services and 1 member of The Zen Den Workgroup.
