Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services to students, staff, and school communities to support student health, wellness, and academic success. The RN promotes a safe and healthy school environment by assessing student health needs, providing direct nursing care, implementing individualized healthcare plans, managing chronic health conditions, administering medications, ensuring compliance with state and federal health regulations, and serving as a health resource for students, families, and district personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Health Services
-
Assess, evaluate, and monitor student health needs.
-
Provide direct nursing care for illness, injury, and emergency situations.
-
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, district policy, and state regulations.

Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and health-related accommodations.
-
Assist with the development and implementation of Section 504 plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) related to health services.
-
Manage and monitor students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, severe allergies, and other medical needs.
-
Conduct health screenings and follow-up activities as required by state law or district procedures.
Health Program Management

Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.

Ensure compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services requirements, immunization regulations, and district policies.
-
Monitor student immunization status and communicate compliance requirements to families.
-
Coordinate communicable disease prevention and response activities.
-
Maintain inventory and security of medications, medical supplies, and health equipment.
Collaboration and Communication
-
Serve as a liaison between families, healthcare providers, school staff, and community agencies.
-
Communicate student health needs and appropriate accommodations to school personnel while maintaining confidentiality.
-
Provide health-related consultation to administrators, teachers, and support staff.
-
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, including IEP and 504 team meetings.
Training and Education
-
Provide health education and wellness information to students, families, and staff.
-
Train designated school personnel on health procedures, medication administration, emergency response, and health-related protocols.
-
Promote district initiatives related to student health, safety, and wellness.
Emergency Preparedness
-
Coordinate and respond to health emergencies and crises.
-
Assist in developing and maintaining school emergency medical procedures.
-
Participate in district emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
Additional Duties
-
Attend professional development and training as required.

Maintain professional licensure and certifications.
-
Perform other duties as assigned to support district operations and student health services.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
-
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
-
Graduation from an accredited nursing program required.
Licensure and Certification
-
Current Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
-
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
-
Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
Experience
-
Minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience preferred.

Experience in pediatric, community health, public health, school nursing, or related settings preferred.

Physical Requirements
