Full job description

The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to specifically serve the needs of the Cardiology Department and support our non-profit mission of delivering world-class care to our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional and compassionate care for our patients from admission through discharge

  • Support veterinarians in all facets of care, including interpreting and executing treatment directives

  • Complete all necessary technical procedures and treatments, with strict adherence to department and hospital protocols

  • Communicate professionally with clients and referral veterinarians

  • Maintain concise and accurate records of the patient’s treatment progress and charges

  • Maintain stock, order supplies, and assist with cleaning and maintaining cleanliness of ward

  • Participate in the training of new employees and volunteers

  • Participate in educational and research projects

  • All other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • NYS Veterinary Technician’s license (or permit) with general practice and anesthesia experience

  • Ability to handle and restrain all species of animal

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Must be able to bend or kneel for extended periods of time while helping with patient restraint and not mind getting wet

  • Must be able to work successfully as part of a team

  • Must also be able work independently and proactively

  • Have ability to follow detailed directions and established protocols

  • Basic computer skills a must

  • Ability to correctly complete large amount of paperwork is necessary

  • Must have flexibility necessary to work weekends, holidays and additional hours as needed

  • Some experience in cardiology preferred but not required
