ANTICIPATED DATES : thru December 31, 2026

LOCATION: Special Education – Maywood Academy

BASIC FUNCTION:

Serve in support of the Special Education School Principal. Comply with and administer the appropriate laws, regulations, policies and procedures affecting the Special Education Division. Other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative and curriculum support to the Principal to ensure a safe, high-qualit y learning environment aligned with NYS Next Generation Learning Standards, P-12 Learning Standards, and Individual Educational P lan (IEP) requirements .

  • Assist in all aspects of daily school operations, including the implementation of policies, programs, and curriculum activities that support individualized student development .

  • Ensure compliance with IDEA and other relevant regulations while advocating for best practices in special education.

  • Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and support teachers with IEP development.

  • Evaluate teachers and teaching assistants following BOCES guidelines.

  • Address student discipline issues through a restorative and trauma-informed lens, ensuring follow through on referrals with

  • teachers, parents, and students support positive behavioral growth and accountability.

  • Champion inclusive practices that promote dignity, autonomy, and self-advocacy for all students.

  • Lead and support professional development to enhance instructional practices and staff growth.

  • Serve as acting Principal in the Principal’s absence, overseeing school operations to ensure continuity and stability.

Job Qualifications

  • New York State certification in School Building Leader or School District Administrator required.

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university, or one accredited by New York State to grant degrees, with a Master’s Degree in educational leadership or a related field.

  • Valid NYS teaching certificate or NYS certification in a pupil personnel services title.

  • Programmatic experience in special e ducation settings and knowledge of Part 200 regulations required.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, family members, school district administrators and community providers.

  • Strong team building and leadership skills.

  • Skilled in using data-driven decision-making to improve instruction, student outcomes, and school operations.

  • Passion for promoting an equitable and engaging learning environment for all students.

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
