The Nexus Center for Applied Learning & Career Development ("Nexus Center") seeks a Career Advisor reporting to the Director of Career Development. The Career Advisor will provide comprehensive career services and applied learning support to students and alumni through high-volume career counseling and advising. This position also includes administrative responsibilities such as developing and presenting workshops, coordinating recruiting events, representing the Nexus Center at events to promote services, utilizing technology to deliver services and to track outcomes, and preparing reports to support assessment efforts.
The Career Advisor collaborates with faculty, administrators, and staff across the College to ensure students are supported in achieving their career and applied learning goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide comprehensive career services and applied learning support to students and alumni, including conducting high-volume counseling appointments and reviewing resumes, cover letters, and application materials.

Assist students and alumni in all aspects of professional preparation, including resume and cover letter development, career assessments, interview preparation, job and internship search strategies, and utilization of career planning resources.

Utilize technology, including AI-enabled platforms, to administer services, track data, and to support assessment efforts. Prepare reports and analyze data to inform strategies that advance student outcomes.

Collaborate with and advise faculty, administrators, and staff on methods to enhance career services and expand departmental engagement in career development initiatives.

Develop and deliver presentations and workshops to classes, student organizations, and other campus audiences.

Support marketing initiatives by maintaining website content and developing materials such as handouts, guides, newsletters, promotional materials, and email communications.

Facilitate student recruitment for career and applied learning opportunities. Coordinate recruiting events and job fairs. Evaluate employment trends and opportunities, align them with existing academic programs, and promote relevant opportunities to students.

Promote the College and the Nexus Center through participation in professional organizations and internal and external events, including orientation programs, admitted student events, and open house programs.

Contribute to the overall success of the Nexus Center and the students and alumni it serves by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree.
-
Experience working with college students, young adults, or individuals in a counseling, advising, education, career services, or related support role.
-
Knowledge of career development concepts and professional preparation, including resumes, cover letters, job search strategies, and interview preparation, or the ability to learn and apply these practices.
-
Experience supporting, coordinating, or participating in programs, events, workshops, or student engagement initiatives.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver presentations to audiences.
-
Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
-
Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Master's degree in counseling, higher education administration, or related field.
-
Certification in recognized career development assessment tools, such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory.

Familiarity with applied learning practices and concepts, including mentorship, experiential education, project-based learning, student research, and SUNY Applied Learning Initiative.

Experience utilizing technology and assessment tools, such as Qualtrics, to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.

Ability to use databases and other technology resources to generate reports and respond to internal and external requests for information, including assessment and outcomes reporting.

Demonstrated ability to support and engage a diverse student population.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty across a variety of academic disciplines.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time UUP position.

For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, August 21, 2026, and ending Thursday, September 3, 2026, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

SALARY: $57,151 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $61,151 Total Compensation.
