What you will be doing: In this position, you will play a key role in the Section of Epidemiology by providing technical accounting and fiscal support within the Central Services Unit. You will manage a variety of fiscal functions, including processing financial transactions, financial management, journal entries, procurement, Reimbursable Service Agreements (RSA), account reconciliations, accounts payable, and budget tracking. Working collaboratively with administrative and program staff, you will help ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient financial operations that support statewide public health programs.

Who we are looking for: The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies in addition to the minimum qualifications listed below:

  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and disbursing officer’s accountability.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting. An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
