REPORTS TO: PTA Faculty

SUPERVISES: PTA students in study sessions or open lab

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Provide both direct and indirect assistance to all PTA students in both first and second years of the PTA technical component of the curriculum and assist program graduates who have not yet passed the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) to prepare for the exam.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mentor during Year:

Schedule hours according to student schedule to ensure accessibility

Maintain a record of student attendance for each semester

Notify faculty of student attendance or non-attendance when mandatory attendance is established by student grades

Contact PTA Program faculty for current class content to help students at all program levels review for tests, quizzes or exams

Supervise open lab opportunities to practice using the new technologies as needed

Be available for subject matter review

Help students create study guides for learning current subjects

Encourage students to save developed study guides to create a future board review study resource

Provide students at all levels in the program with study strategies

Contact PTA Program faculty for content outline to assist senior students in developing study resources to use as they prepare for the NPTE

Help each student to organize and prioritize information learned in class as they create an individual study resource for the board examination

Organize students but don't do the work for them

Be available to program alumni who have not yet passed the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) to prepare for the exam

Role model the position of the PTA

Utilize the language of the profession

Perform other duties as assigned by Program Faculty

Mentor for "Crash Review Course":

Schedule sessions for a total of 20 hours for a special exam review "crash course" after the final senior clinical and external exam prep class and prior to the comprehensive final

Discuss personal study strategies used in preparing for the board examination, reduce anxiety of students by preparing them for what to expect when you go to the testing center.

Discuss importance of students doing review tests for practice and reviewing material in study guides.

Do not discuss specifics with the students; however, you may generalize content and help them to focus on topics. For example, remind students to review basic anatomy, ask questions; quiz them on spinal cord information, etc.

Prepare question "flash cards" utilizing examination prep books, instructor test banks from textbooks and/or faculty questions.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited PT/PTA program

  • Passed the NPTE

  • Certified in New York State

  • Have worked as a PT/PTA in a clinical setting, not including clinical rotations

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $22.50 - $35.00 / hour

Part-time: approximately 15-20 hours per week
