Title Postdoctoral Fellow in Atmospheric Science

School Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

Department/Area

Position Description

The Keutsch Group is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Atmospheric Science. The successful candidate will conduct laboratory experiments investigating heterogeneous halogen and nitrogen chemistry on organic and biomass-burning aerosols under stratospheric conditions. The research will focus on determining reactive uptake rates and other parameters needed to characterize these heterogeneous processes. Experimental results will be integrated into models of stratospheric chemistry to quantify their effects on stratospheric composition, with particular emphasis on ozone.

The postdoctoral fellow will also participate in planned stratospheric airborne field campaigns, including the collection of aerosol samples for subsequent offline microanalysis. The position will provide opportunities to work across laboratory, field, and modeling components of a larger collaborative research program.

The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a multidisciplinary team at Harvard and will collaborate with research groups outside Harvard involved in the broader project. The successful candidate will also contribute to the mentoring of graduate and/or undergraduate students participating in the research.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate in atmospheric science, atmospheric chemistry, or a closely related field by the time the appointment begins.

Additional Qualifications

A strong record of experimental research is preferred.

Experience with experimental methods is desirable as is experience with airborne field campaigns and/or measurements conducted in aircraft-based research environments.

Knowledge of stratospheric chemistry, including processes affecting stratospheric ozone, is preferred.

Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team is desirable.

Special Instructions

Applicants should submit the following materials:

  • Curriculum vitae

  • Names and email addresses of two references

Reference requests will be sent directly to the referees through the Harvard application system after the application is submitted.
