PAY SCALE: $35.00 - $37.00 per hour, based on experience
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Evening Culinary Food Preparation & Service Chef to oversee food preparation, meal service, and kitchen operations during evening programming. The successful candidate will ensure delivered food from FoodLink is properly warmed and kept at temperature as per health department code, food will be served from 5-5:30 pm to adult students and stored according to New York State Department of Health regulations and food safety standards. Monitoring and supporting student helpers to ensure that the commercial kitchen meets and exceeds the New York State Department of Health regulations. This position also provides supervision and guidance to volunteers and student assistants participating in food preparation, meal service, cash handling, and cleanup activities.
Schedule: The ideal candidate would work Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 pm 6:00 pm.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Food Preparation & Service
-
Warm up FoodLink food in accordance Foodlink and NYS Health department standards.

Ensure proper food handling, preparation, cooking, holding, cooling, and storage procedures are followed.

Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and customer service.

Monitor portion control and food inventory to minimize waste.
-
Ensure all food service activities comply with New York State Department of Health regulations and local health department requirements.
Health, Safety & Sanitation
-
Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.

Ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing of food preparation areas, equipment, and serving stations.
-
Monitor food temperatures and maintain required food safety logs.
-
Implement and enforce safe food handling practices among staff, volunteers, and students.
-
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of kitchen equipment.
Supervision & Training
-
Supervise volunteers and/or student assistants during food preparation, serving, cash register operation, and cleanup activities.

Provide instruction and coaching on proper food service procedures and workplace expectations.

Assign duties and monitor performance to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen and serving area.

Promote a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for students and volunteers.
Cash Handling & Customer Service

Oversee operation of the cash register and point-of-sale activities.

Ensure accurate cash handling and reconciliation procedures are followed.

Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
Cleanup & Closing Procedures
-
Direct and participate in kitchen and dining area cleanup.

Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned, sanitized, and secured.

Complete end-of-shift closing procedures and ensure facilities are left in a safe and orderly condition.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

Experience in commercial food preparation, food service, or culinary operations.

Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.

Ability to supervise and work effectively with volunteers and students.

Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform moderate physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
