Job Description

The Student Assistant in Advising, Career and Transfer Services provides assistance to students in our advising lab with all aspects of online, self-service functions related to student advising:

  • Assists students in navigating relevant sites including OwlNet

  • Aids students with scheduling classes and printing schedules

  • Works with students and advisors to resolve registration errors

  • Assist with monitoring Advising Live Chat

  • Helps students with applying for graduation

  • Assists Advising Office with scheduling student advising appointments

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education

High school diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • Currently-enrolled HCC student; completed 12 credits of college course work; and have a GPA of at least 2.0.

  • One year of customer service experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficient in a Windows-based PC environment including MS Office Suite.

  • Ability to provide customer service to students of diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to work and cooperate with co-workers and supervisors at all levels.

  • Ability to work with, within, and promote a diverse workforce and environment.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to understand and act on oral and written instructions in English.

  • Ability to maintain customer service and satisfaction as it relates to assigned unit or area of expertise.

  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Harford Community College’s OwlNet web portal

  • Experience using Brightspace or any other cloud-based learning management system (LMS)

  • Experience using Outlook for email

Hours per Week 20

General Weekly Work Schedule

Monday 1 PM – 5 PM

Tuesday & Thursdays 9 AM – 5 PM
