Ability to supervise and lead a diverse workforce.** Knowledge of printing equipment, processes, and technologies used in managing a printing program.** Ability to recommend and implement graphic design and user support policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.** Ability to review the work products and services of others. This position is located in the Design Office, Center for Exhibits and Interpretation (CEI), Chief of Staff, Office of the Librarian. The incumbent of this position is responsible for planning the work of the Design and Printing Office, evaluating and recommending purchase of equipment and materials required; space requirements; and staffing. The incumbent is responsible for the printing, composing, editorial, design and graphic needs of the Library. As the Chief, Design and Printing Office, you will: Provide administrative and technical supervision relative to the staff supervised. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff and clearly communicate these through the formal employee performance management system. Provide technical guidance and advice to program operating officials in the planning stages of printing projects on matters relating to cost effectiveness; interpretations of regulations and policies; and development of print formats. Evaluate the production program, observe the need for the change or adaptation of procedures, and recommend such changes. Oversee the organization, development, and implementation of multiple interactive components of both on-site and traveling exhibitions. Direct the design, programming, and technical support of interactive activities for visitors and patrons. Serve as a liaison with the GPO. Perform other duties as assigned. The position description number for this position is 389894. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. The incumbent of this position will work a Flexitime work schedule. This is a supervisory, non-bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.
