Job Title: Avionics Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on performing advanced avionics maintenance, repairs, installations, and troubleshooting on rotary-wing aircraft, with a primary emphasis on AW139 helicopters. The Avionics Technician uses strong technical expertise to ensure all systems operate safely and reliably within an FAA repair station environment, supporting maintenance, repair, overhaul, and completion activities for a diverse fleet of aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of avionics systems on AW139 helicopters and other aircraft as assigned.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex avionics issues using systematic troubleshooting methods in an FAA repair station environment.

  • Install, terminate, and route wire harnesses and cabling in accordance with engineering drawings, technical data, and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct maintenance and repair on avionics components such as transponders, navigation and communication systems (Navcomms), radar systems, distance measuring equipment (DME), and related equipment.

  • Support completion and modification projects by installing and integrating avionics equipment and systems on new or in-service aircraft.

  • Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to perform accurate and compliant installations and repairs.

  • Collaborate with maintenance and structures teams to coordinate avionics tasks within broader maintenance and overhaul projects.

  • Work efficiently in a heavy maintenance environment, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to high quality standards.

  • Use and maintain personal basic hand tools and test equipment in good working order.

  • Document all work performed in accordance with regulatory and company requirements, ensuring accurate records of maintenance and repairs.

  • Adhere to FAA, company, and industry standards, including safety procedures and quality control processes.

  • Work overtime as needed to support maintenance schedules, customer deadlines, and operational requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 4+ years of recent, relevant avionics experience.

  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation of avionics systems in an FAA repair station.

  • Proficiency in avionics installation, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul on helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft.

  • Ability to fabricate, install, and repair wire harnesses and associated avionics wiring.

  • Experience working with avionics systems such as transponders, navigation and communication equipment, radar, and DME.

  • Strong understanding of FAA regulations and repair station procedures related to avionics maintenance.

  • Capability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and maintenance manuals.

  • Experience in a heavy maintenance environment, supporting major inspections, overhauls, and modifications.

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as required by operational needs.

  • Possession of personal basic tools appropriate for avionics maintenance work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous field experience with helicopters, particularly AgustaWestland models such as AW139, is highly preferred.

  • Experience with avionics from manufacturers such as Garmin, Honeywell, or Cobham is a plus.

  • Experience working on a variety of aircraft types, including AgustaWestland, Bell, Sikorsky, Eurocopter/Airbus, Boeing, Falcon Jet, HondaJet, Learjet, Phenom, Cessna, Citation, Bombardier, and Embraer, is beneficial.

  • Open to candidates with a mix of corporate, commercial, helicopter, or military experience, provided there is FAA-related experience.

  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License with radar endorsement is preferred.

  • FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic certification is preferred.

  • Civilian aircraft maintenance experience is preferred.

  • Experience in completion centers or MRO environments, including installation support and modifications, is advantageous.

Work Environment

You will work in a heavy maintenance setting that includes hangar and shop spaces, using standard avionics test equipment, hand tools, and diagnostic devices. The schedule may include overtime to meet project and customer deadlines. Work is hands-on and detail-oriented, requiring adherence to FAA repair station standards, safety protocols, and quality procedures in a professional aviation maintenance facility.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bensalem, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
