Full job description

Job Title: Chemical Recausticizing Assistant Superintendent

Location: Spring Grove, PA, United States

Type: Direct Hire

Work Model: Onsite – onsite

Responsibilities

  • Manage safety, environmental, production, and cost parameters associated with the conversion processes in the pulp mill

  • Oversee day-to-day and long-term operations of liquor making, calciner, and evaporator trains

  • Develop competency in other mill operations and assist during call outs or absences of other Assistant Superintendents

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, ensuring adherence to safety rules and environmental permits

  • Complete and manage environmental documentation accurately and timely

  • Provide process and technical expertise for liquor making, calciner, and evaporators; troubleshoot operational issues

  • Coordinate maintenance activities, including work orders and safety procedures such as lock-out/tag-out

  • Assist with capital project development and planning, including collaborating with Engineering and Maintenance teams

  • Prepare and monitor operational budgets, and document reasons for variances

  • Verify employee competence, provide process guidance, and enforce workplace expectations and policies

  • Purchase tools, chemicals, and parts as needed; attend technical seminars for ongoing training

  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements and support related trials

Requirements

  • Experience in pulp mill operations and chemical recausticizing processes

  • Understanding of kraft liquor cycle chemistry and mechanical operation of relevant equipment

  • Ability to develop and support safety and environmental initiatives

  • Supervisory experience managing hourly employees in an industrial setting

  • Strong troubleshooting, coordination, and communication skills

  • Capable of creating maintenance and capital project plans

  • High school diploma or equivalent; advanced technical or operational training preferred
