Full job description

As a Field Technician at Understory, you will work as a detail-minded, safety-focused weather station installation and repair technician. As a part of our team, you will work closely with our solar asset and auto dealer clients across the United States to perform weather station installation and maintenance; mapping of weather station structures and installations; aid with construction inspection, testing, and condition assessments; and development of inspection reports.

The work environment is casual, flexible, and fun while also being fast-paced toward making insurance viable despite climate change and protecting livelihoods across the globe. Your peers will be a multidisciplinary and diverse team with expertise in weather and climate, insurance, data science, technology, and R&D. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be on the front lines of our forward-thinking clients as they use our on-the-ground technology to power their risk mitigation against severe weather with early warnings.

Your main role responsibilities will include the following:

  • Become part of a dynamic team, be safety focused, and demonstrate accuracy in installation documentation, photo documentation, and inventory reporting

  • Travel to site locations across the US and install weather stations while being a front-line ambassador to our clients

  • Meet project guidelines in ways that balance technical requirements, constructability, operability, and safety

  • Complete mechanical maintenance

  • Maintain an organized warehouse space Skills & Qualifications

  • Be hardworking, hungry to learn, and have the ability to work independently

  • Have a mechanical aptitude Have excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Be flexible with a strong work ethic and a love for problem-solving

  • Having climbing certifications or extensive experience is a huge plus

  • Enjoy lift objects up to 75 pounds regularly

  • Are comfortable with climbing ladders, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, reaching, walking, standing, and working at heights and/or on irregular surfaces

  • Have your own reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, meet qualifications to be insured on company vehicles and able/willing to drive a company vehicle

  • Have experience working remotely, or with a partially remote team

  • Be comfortable with a working hour spread of 50% travel/onsite and 50% office work Compensation includes:
