Tool Finisher - Temp to Hire

Bedford Park, IL

3rd shift - 10:00pm - 6:30am

Train on 1st shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm

Pay Rate: $21.75 to $24 per hour based on experience

Kelly has partnered with a manufacturing facility in Bedford Park, IL and is seeking a Tool Finisher to join their R&D Tool Shop team!

This is an excellent opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals looking to build a career in CNC machining, tooling, and advanced manufacturing. The Tool Finisher plays a key role in preparing, inspecting, and finishing precision tooling components while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company safety guidelines.

  • Accurately track labor and project activities using shop work order and production tracking systems.

  • Set up and operate micro-drill presses to drill precision ventilation holes and other tooling features.

  • Perform finishing operations on machined tooling components using scrapers, stones, files, abrasives, emery cloths, die grinders, and related hand tools.

  • Inspect tooling and machined components for surface finish, dimensional accuracy, contour conformity, and overall quality.

  • Utilize precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify specifications.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD drawings, sketches, and work instructions.

  • Assist with assembly, packaging, and shipment preparation of tooling and machined components.

  • Identify and communicate quality concerns, process issues, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment to meet production and project deadlines.

  • Support additional tooling, machining, and manufacturing activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in manufacturing or machining.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work with a high level of accuracy.

  • Experience using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.

  • Basic math skills, including algebra and geometry.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules as business needs require.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a machine shop, tool room, manufacturing, fabrication, or CNC environment.

  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.

  • Exposure to CNC machining, tooling, mold making, die making, or metalworking operations.

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
